Ingredients

  • * 4 tablespoons butter
  • * 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • * 2 tablespoons milk
  • * 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • * 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved, then add milk. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.

    3. Spread Quickly over cooled cake, as frosting will set up very fast.

dadsdaughter...why would you want it to taste like gross canned frosting? I would hope it tastes fudgy and rich. I'd even think about adding a melted square of unsweetened chocolate to it for an even more chocolately taste. I think I'll try this recipe!

I agree with carmijok, the thought of anything tasting like canned frosting..yuck! I bet this one is good, I'm going to have to try it.

It sounds really yummy, is it a dark color frosting or a pale brown? Im in search for a super awesome dark brown chocolate icing, I tried a few on here & got no where :( Thanks in advance 4 sharing :)

This is awesome! I did add an ounce of unsweetened chocolate because I was afraid 1T. of cocoa wouldn't be enough and it turned out great!

I used a heaping Tablespoon of cocoa and it was delicious. It was nice and thick enough to use as a filling.

so far, Duncan Hines dark choc. fudge icing has the real fudgy flavor. I'll try this, but want to know if you can ice and decorate with it. It was mentioned that it sets fast.

This is very good, but not what I'm looking for. I want a receipe for choc. fudge buttercream. Same consistancy as regular buttercream, judge dark choc. fudge flavor. The receipes I've seen so far are more like Ganach, a poured icing. The only can icing I use is Duncan Hines dark choc. fudge for this reason, can't get a receipe for anything like it.

dadsdaughter, have you tried the recipe for chocolate frosting on the back of the Hershey Unsweetened Cocoa box? It is hands down my most requested chocolate frosting. Its fudgy and smooth but spreads great and will crust enough to get a clean finish if using on the outside. SUPER easy to make too, which HELLO huge bonus! I have a german chocolate cake in my pictures that was frosted with this icing. I use it all the time for filling and also topping my peanut butter cupcakes.....my #1 best seller!! Anyway try it out and let me know if you fall in love with it like I did!

I needed SUPER dark chocolate for some penguin cupcakes, I was unable to get the dark color I wanted along with the sweet taste without it tasting like pure sugar! I made a basic fudge frosting, like the one above, but added a little black gel food coloring! Worked perfect!
