Cat's Twinkie Filling

My mother made cupcakes with this filling when I was little. I loved Hostess goodies. Thanks Mom! â?¥

Cat's Twinkie Filling

Ingredients

  • 5 T. all purpose flour 1 C. milk 1/2 C. shortening 1/2 C. butter 1 C. sugar 1/2 t. salt 1 t. vanilla

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, mix the flour & the milk. Heat over medium heat till thick, stirring constantly. Set aside to cool.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the shortening, butter, sugar, salt and the vanilla.
  3. Add the cooled flour & milk mixture; continue beating until fluffy. Store covered in the fridge for up to 2 days before using as a filling between cake layers.

it has to sit 2 days in the fridge before using? or can it be used right away Im confused.
I made this and I left it sit for a day & a 1/2 .. It didn't look right .. looked like it was separating .. tasted okay but the look of it not so good .. I'll try another recipe next time .. thanks though
I read this to mean that the filling can be stored in the fridge for later, but should be used within 2 days, not that you need to wait two days to use it.
