Cake Balls

I apologize if this recipe is somewhere on this site, but I looked and didn't see it. I did find a lot of discussions about cake balls, but again, I didn't find this recipe. It basically adds the icing into the cooked and cooled cake. It makes a very moist ball. My favorite is lemon cake mix with lemon icing dipped in white almond bark. At Christmas I like to use a red velvet mix, a container of cream cheese frosting and tint almond bark a light green. You can use any flavor cake mix and icing. Chocolate lovers will adore chocolate cake, chocolate icing and chocolate bark.

Cake Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 cake mix 1 container of premade icing 1 package (16 Ounces) bark, melted

Instructions

  1. Bake according to directions on box.
  2. After baking, let cool then crumble into small pieces
  3. Add container of icing to crumbled cake and mix well.
  4. Place bowl in freezer for approximately 30-45 minutes or until the cake mixture holds it shape.
  5. While freezing melt almond bark in double boiler.
  6. Remove cake mixture from freezer and roll into desired size balls.
  7. Using a toothpick or dipping fork, dip balls into melted bark.
  8. Set on waxed paper to dry.

Thanks, I was just saying in the forum that I needed to find a cake ball recipe. I have been wanting to try these. Thanks again for sharing.
I made these for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day and he loved them! I know a lot of people have had trouble with them so I made a post about tips from my own experience on my blog. http://www.cookiesandpt.com/2010/03/15/my-cake-ball-experience-with-tips/ Thanks for posting the recipe! I already love this site.
i thought you freeze them after you roll them into balls? hmmmmm
Thanks! I was wondering what the heck a cake ball was! Now I have a use for those torte scraps! I think I'll use my left over icing though! I usually take my scraps of cake, put them in a zipper bag in the freezer. If we want a quick dessert, I cut them into one inch chunks, put some sliced strawberries and whipped cream on top. Thanks a bunch!
I have been using my scraps for Cake Balls also known as Cake Truffles. Try adding some orange zest w/ a little of the juice from the orange along with some whipped topping! They are so yummy! Lemon too! But I use real chocolate and even better is Dark chocolate.
I made some tonight, and they were a hit!!! I actually made them to experiment, and is kind of weird because I mixed lemon cake and yellow cake leftovers with 2 tbsp of cream cheese frosting, put them in the freezer for about 10mins. Once they were cool, I cover them in semi sweet chocolate chips and rolled them in crushed candy cane!!!! I will only say they were delicious!!!!
