Cake Baking, Cutting & Serving Guide - 2 in. Deep Pans

Posted by Jackie

Baking Times, Batter Amounts & Number of Servings One cake mix yields 4 to 5 1/2 cups of batter. Pans are usually filled 1/2 to 2/3 full; 3" deep pans should be filled only 1/2 full. Batter amounts on these charts are for pans 2/3 full of batter. For large cakes, always check for doneness after they have baked for 1 hour.

Note: For Pans 11" and larger, use a heating core when baking. The charts below show baking information and serving amounts for both 2-inch pans and 3-inch high pans. The figures for 2-inch pans are based on a 2-layer or 4-inch depth cake. The figures for 3-inch pans are based on a 1-layer cake which has been torted and filled to reach a 3-inch depth. The serving amounts listed are based on party-sized portions of approximately 1-1/2 x 2 inches or wedding-sized portions which are cut smaller, about 1 x 2 inches. You may wish to cut larger or smaller pieces, depending on whether you are using a 4-inch layer or a 3-inch layer. The number of servings given is meant as a guide only.

I love this cake size, servings & baking table! It has a lot of great information but, I don't see any sheet cakes on it. Can someone help with this? On other sites I have seen the number of servings for a quarter sheet cake run from 16 to 24 servings.
Thank you this was just what i needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! Nice to have it all in one place!
I'm trying to work out servings for large pans - 22, 24 and have found a huge discrepancy amongst serving charts. This one http://www.ladycakes.com/earlene's_chart.htm seems to be very popular but does anyone know what size servings it calculates for? I use the chart listed above but am wondering if it is realistic now that I look at others....thoughts anyone?
Thank you for the post! Very happy to have all in one spot! Cheers!
Can we get this updated to include the newer shaped pans (star, pillow, paisly, etc)? Thanks!
Is there standard rule for adjusting oven temperatures when baking different sized cakes at the same time? I've tried keeping the same temperature when baking a 6" and 8", while sticking to the times on this chart, and it always takes longer to bake and the cakes get darker.
