Buttermilk Pound Cake

I got this recipe from my mother in law who got it from her mother in law. It is soooo good.

Note with the baking time…. Sometimes it doesn’t take as long and sometimes it seems to take a little more time. I always start watching it closely after about 45 mintues. I have baked this in several different types of pans as well, you just have to watch them closer to tell when they are done.

Buttermilk Pound Cake

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp lemon extract
  • 3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Cream together the sugar, shortening and butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each one. Stir in vanilla and lemon extracts. In a seperate bowl stir together the flour and baking soda. Add to the creamed mixture alternating with the buttermilk, beating well after each addition. Pour into a greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/4 hours. Cool 10 minutes then remove from pan. Excellent served with strawberries and whipped cream.
