Buttercream Frosting

I am new to the this cake baking stuff… but this has always been my go to recipe for buttercream. I have tried a few others, but so far none I’ve really been too fond of. This recipe is fairly sweet in my opinion… but my family and friends love it! Try it out and let me know what you pro’s think

;)
. If you all have any constructive criticism, I’m all ears!

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 c. crisco
  • 2 tsp. meringue powder
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. almond extract (the recipe actually calls for vanilla extract, but I prefer the almond, and sometimes I use both)
  • 1/4 c. + 2 Tbsp. water
  • 1/4 c. Milk

Instructions

  1. I mix all my wet ingredients first and pour into the kitchen aide, mix in meringue powder, and then slowly add the sifted powdered sugar. Beat with paddle attachment until smooth. You can add more milk/water or powdered sugar to reach your desired consistency. This can also be made with a hand mixer just fine. This IS a crusting buttercream.

I’M EXCITED TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS!! :)

I'm on the search for a white white buttercream and this looks like it would be. SO I am adding it to my favorites and going to give it a try :) Thanks for sharing!

I also am a new baker have tried the Wilton buttercream, but for some reason it does NOT taste good AT ALL!! You can definitely taste the crisco......yuck! I'm in the search for a buttercream that tastes like OR close enough to "bakery" buttercream. Does your taste similar and have you tried using 'butter flavor" crisco? I wonder if that would make a difference in taste????? Thank you!

I have used crisco once in my buttercream...NEVER AGAIN!!! My buttercream is just that BUTTERcream. Crisco completely changes the consistency. Tastes more like the gross buttercream you get at a grocery store
