So I really wanted to make Christmas cookies for everyone this year but I so don't have a lot of time to make anything detailed. So I was thinking of making chocolate covered oreos instead...
The problem is that I don't have any molds.
Does anyone have simple instructions for me to make them without a mold and make them look nice...
So I use chocolate of candy melts?? Do I use a microwave or a double boiler???
If anyone can help it would be awesome. I just need tips and advice.
TIA!
The way I do mine is to microwave the chocolate in a glass bowl
then I drop one cookie in at a time take it out with a fork and tap it on the side of the bowl to get the excess chocolate off then I put it on wax paper and then I pop them in the freezer for about 10 min. just to harden the chocolate try not to touch the top of the cookie because it will lose its shine. I am also doing a mock truffle you take a package of mint oreos and crush them and add 1 pkg of cream cheese mix well scoop out 1 in balls dip them in the chocolate that you had left over from the oreos tap on the side of the bowl put on wax paper throw them in the freezer for a few minutes so easy . When you melt your chocolate microwave 1min at a time stir real good then do this until chocolate is smooth it wont take long so make sure you stir real good after every minute. I hpoe this helps. Okay I just thought of 1 more cookie I am making you melt your chocolate just like the oreos but you add 1 drop of mint LorAnn oil
don't add to much taste to see how much you like then I take a Ritz cracker and drop it in the chocolate take it out with a fork tap on side of bowl put on wax paper put in freezer for a couple of min.
they taste like girl scout thin mints.

Anyways, I just couldn't get the oreo to look as good as I hoped...SOOOO....I looked it up and at Christmas time they comes out with White chocolate covered oreos! All done and wrapped up for you! So the rest of the work was a breeze!! lol. So, if you are at all interested.....oreos DO come pre-dipped! I know, I know.......but SOOO handy when making the cute little mice! 2 words.....TIME SAVER!!

I add a tsp or so of Crisco to the melted chocolate (I use choc and white choc chips because I can't get the candy melts here). The shortening keeps the chocolate getting too clumpy and gives it a nice shine.

vickymacd - love the picture. Really, it brought a tear to my eyes.
Your cookies look great. They are so shiny. What kind of chocolate did you use and did you place them in the freezer to harden prior to turning the cookies out of the mold?
